Lehighton man placed in special probation program for DUI

A Lehighton man was placed in a special probation program on Thursday on a charge of driving under the influence, which he had previously entered a plea.

President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II agreed to permit George Earl Lahr Jr., 54, of Lehighton, to enter the Restrictive Conditions of Probation program, house arrest, on the DUI charge.

Lahr was arrested on March 2 by state police at Lehighton along Lizard Creek Road in East Penn Township after being involved in a one-vehicle crash. A test revealed a 0.26 BAC.

Nanovic placed him in the program for six months with the first 30 days served with electronic monitoring. He must also pay a fine of $750, license suspended for a year, pay court costs of about $1,000 and pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation.

The placement saved Lahr from spending 30 days in the county jail for his second offense for DUI.
