The beautification of Weissport continues, with several statues being cleaned.
Thanks to a grant from the Carbon County Community Foundation, the statues in the Weissport Park, along with the Col. Jacob Weiss Monument at Bunker Hill Cemetery in Weissport were cleaned.
The work was done recently by Matt Watson, owner of Womer Memorials LLC of Kempton, along with one of his helpers, said Keith “Jake” Boyer, a member of Jacob’s Weissport Historical Society.
Boyer said the project was coordinated by Sandy Putkowski, Ruth Bush, and Sylvia Storms from Jacob’s Weissport Historical Society.
“They (the statues) were looking kind of musty, mildewy,” Boyer said. “We thought we’d take it on ourselves and clean it up.”
Boyer noted that the grant from the Carbon County Community Foundation made it possible.
“I think it looks excellent,” he said.
“It’s a great addition to the Weissport park.”
Boyer said the rest of the funds from the grant will be used to complete the mural under the bridge.
