September 20, 1997 - Jim Thorpe collects 334 yards and six touchdowns on the ground to gain a 40-14 Mid-Penn Conference victory over Columbia-Montour Vo-Tech. Mike Wernett reaches the end zone three times for the Olympians, coached by Adam Sieminski, including a 44-yard run to open the scoring in the first quarter. Wernett, who finishes the contest with 78 yards on 13 carries, adds a 3-yard tally in the second frame and a 4-yarder in the fourth. Thorpe quarterback Frank Miller adds two TDs on runs of one and eight yards, while Ngoyi Mukusa also scores for the winners.
