A “Downtown Mall” was proposed for First Street, Lehighton, last evening during the reorganization dinner of the Lehighton Chamber of Commerce held at the Mahoning Valley Country Club.

The mall is the idea of Frank Brunner, Lehighton, who, with Dan Watt, presented an artist’s conception of the business section, calling for the pavements along the east side of the borough park to be removed and the street widened. An island would be erected in the center of the block in front of the park.

The mall, which would extend from Coal to Iron streets, cannot be effected until funding is in place and the Lehighton Bi-Pass highway is completed by the Department of Highways.
