Pedestrian struck in Schuylkill

A pedestrian was struck by a vehicle and injured in an incident in Schuylkill County on Tuesday.

State police at Frackville said the incident occurred at 5:33 a.m. along Route 924 in West Mahanoy Township. Troopers said Dorothy F. Laureti, 80, of Shenandoah, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu southbound when she struck Joseph J. Piekarsky, 31, of Shenandoah, who was walking along the right shoulder of the road.

Piekarsky was taken to the Reading Hospital for unknown type injuries. Laureti was not injured.

The investigation is continuing and charges are pending, troopers said.
