NY man in custody after robbing Monroe bank at gunpoint

A Brooklyn, New York, man is in custody after robbing a bank at gunpoint Thursday morning in Monroe County.

At 10:20 a.m. state police at Stroudsburg were notified about a bank robbery at the ESSA Bank located at 5120 Milford Road, Middle Smithfield Township.

Police responded to the bank and viewed surveillance video of the incident.

Michael Muse, 43, was observed entering the bank while wearing a hooded sweatshirt, black face covering, yellow work gloves, black leggings, and red sneakers.

Muse entered the bank and brandished a pistol at the bank tellers. Four bank staff members were present at the time of the incident.

Muse ordered the tellers to the front of the bank and requested a teller to empty the register.

Muse then demanded the money while pointing the pistol at the teller, who removed a large sum of cash from the register and placed it in a bag.

The bag was then handed to Muse, who placed it underneath his sweatshirt, left the bank and walked north toward the AutoZone parts store at 5115 Milford Road.

Witnesses saw Muse fleeing the area in a van, and PSP Stroudsburg patrol members spotted the vehicle in the area of Milford Road and Oak Grove Road.

After a vehicle pursuit and foot chase in the Middle Smithfield Township area, Muse was taken into custody by PSP Stroudsburg members.

Muse was then transported to PSP Stroudsburg for processing.

He faces charges of robbery, theft, fleeing and eluding.
