Luzerne woman given state time on assault charge

A Luzerne County woman, formerly of Lehighton, was sentenced to a state prison term on Monday on an assault count for which she previously entered a guilty plea.

Kimberly A. Knight, 50, of Wilkes-Barre, was sentenced to serve 24 to 48 months in a state correctional institution by Judge Steven R. Serfass on a charge of aggravated assault by a prisoner. On a charge of criminal trespass she was sentenced to serve 16 to 32 months and on a receiving stolen property count, nine to 24 months. All of the terms run concurrently.

She was arrested by Lehighton police on Sept. 24, 2019, for the assault count and on Sept. 24, 2019, by Lehighton police for receiving charge for an incident at the General Dollar Store along North First Street. A retail theft charge was dropped in a plea deal.

She was also ordered to get both drug and alcohol and mental health evaluations, supply a DNA sample and pay court costs of about $1,000.

Knight, who is an inmate in the county prison, was given credit for a total of 537 days already served on the charges.
