September 13, 1957 - Tamaqua scores on both offense and defense in posting an 18-7 victory over Summit Hill in both team’s season opener. The Blue Raiders open the scoring in the second quarter with a 64-yard drive. A 19-yard run by Dave Stultz is the key play in the march, that ends with Tony Fredicine crossing the goal line from three yards out. The score remains 6-0 until the third frame when John Gozjack intercepts a pass and returns it 55 yards for a touchdown. Tamaqua, coached by Dick Jones, adds an insurance tally in the fourth when Bob Barnisky recovers a fumble and later scores on a 6-yard run.
