Meeting changes

Due to the Labor Day holiday Monday, Ross Township supervisors are slated to meet at 7 p.m. this coming Monday.

The meeting is held at the Ross Township Municipal Building, 250 Anchorage Road, Saylorsburg.

Another meeting change comes from Operation: Touch of Home.

That group will also be meeting at 7 p.m. Monday, but at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert.

Regular meetings on the second Tuesday of the month will resume in October, when the group will meet at 7 p.m. at the American Legion Post 927 in Gilbert.

Open bingo

Every Monday night is bingo night at the American Legion in Gilbert. Card sales begin at 6:30 p.m.; playing at 7 p.m.

SAL meeting

Sons of the American Legion will meet at 7 p.m. Monday at the Legion Post 927 home in Gilbert.

Women’s Group

Effort Women’s Group will meet a 7 p.m. Monday, In Wesley Hall at Effort UMC.

Cholesterol program

Chestnuthill Seniors, attending the Monroe County Center at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville, can hear a program on various aspects of cholesterol, beginning at 10:30 a.m. and lasting approximately an hour, on Sept. 15.

No registration is necessary.

Drive-in supper

Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsvillle, is holding a free drive-in community supper next Wednesday at 5 p.m.

Grandparents support

A new support group for grandparents who have adopted and/or have legal guardianship/custody of a grandchild(ren) is now forming.

Anyone in need of support with the everyday challenges of being a “mommy or daddy” again and losing one’s retirement years should consider this group.

It will be starting in mid-September and will meet at the public library.

Volunteers sought

From the office of RSVP (Retired Senior Volunteer Program) comes word of senior volunteers being needed for at least 10 different programs, with two mentioned specifically in the West End.

They are receptionist work in the Jonas area and help needed with the West End Pantry.

Many other volunteer spots are available including grocery shoppers and friendly visitors needed all over the county, classroom aides for GED students as well as Head Start programs and Clothing Closet assistance, sorting and folding.

In addition, the RSVP office collects flattened and sorted plastic grocery bags, clean yarn, cellphones with chargers, and prescription glasses toiletries, used.

Also collected are back packs and toiletries for the homeless and puzzle books, adult coloring books, colored pencils, stress balls and fidget spinners for the local hospital.

The RSVP office is located at 411 Main St. in Stroudsburg with weekday hours from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.

Invitation received

Operation Touch of Home has been asked to participate at the Great Pocono Arms & Military Show at Pocono Raceway from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 21.

Balance program

The Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will host a class, A Matter of Balance, beginning Sept. 22, as brought by St. Luke’s Monroe Campus.

The class will be once a week for eight weeks, from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.

There is no fee for the class.

It is intended to help older adults manage falls and increase activity levels.

Class size is limited to 8 to12 people. Registration is required.

Gun bingo change

Polk Township Volunteer Fire Company’s gun bingo date has been changed to Nov. 6, Chief Bill Tippett said.
