A driver fled the scene of a crash in Eldred Township, Monroe County.

State police at Lehighton said the incident occurred at 3:34 a.m. on Sept. 3 along Molasses Valley Road, between Spring Tree Lane and Pine Grove Road.

Troopers said David A. Vanhorn, 58, of Kunkletown, was driving a 2003 Jeep Liberty eastbound and negotiating a slight left curve.

The Jeep left the road and crashed head-on into a tree, then traveled into a field. Vanhorn fled the scene leaving the Jeep in the field with the engine running.

Troopers said multiple witnesses identified Vanhorn as the driver. The vehicle had to be towed.
