Schuylkill sets fall cleanup

Tires, appliances and other items will be accepted for the Schuylkill County fall cleanup held Sept. 7-15.

Schuylkill County commissioners approved fees for the collection of tires and recycling items at last Wednesday’s meeting.

Mahantongo Enterprises, Liverpool, will collect the tires. The tires will be collected at the following sites: Pottsville, Minersville, Hegins Township, CES Landfill, Girardville, North Manheim Township, Schuylkill Haven, Pine Grove Township, Wayne Township, Porter Township, Tamaqua Transfer Station, Ringtown, Tremont Borough, Branch Township, New Ringgold, and Mahanoy Township.

Acceptable tires are those from light truck, automobile, motorcycle and RV tires up to 16 inches in diameter. Cost is $2 per tire without rims and $3 with rims. Limit is 10 tires per load with a two load limit.

The following appliances are accepted:

Freon bearing appliances to include air conditioners, refrigerators and dehumidifiers $10 each.

Non-freon-bearing appliances and scrap metal to include stoves, washers, dryers, water heaters, bicycles, barbecue grills and metal furniture are free.

Mattresses, box springs, rolls of carpet, doors and windows are $10 each. Sofas and overstuffed chairs $5 per cushion.
