Carbon County court — DUI
A total of 14 defendants, charged with driving under the influence and related counts, entered guilty pleas in Carbon County court on Friday.
Judge Steven R. Serfass accepted the pleas from the following:
David J. Mirabelli, 40, of Lehighton, was arrested on March 27, 2020, by Franklin Township police along Green Street. He also pleaded to fleeing or attempting to elude police, resisting arrest and recklessly endangering another person. He previously pleaded to the charges.
He was involved in a chase with police. He admitted to mental health issues and is currently receiving treatment/counseling.
On the DUI charge he was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension, 25 hours of community service, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and continuing his counseling. He was given credit for 11 days served and paroled.
On the fleeing charge he was sentenced to serve two to one day less 24 months in prison; on the reckless endangering and resisting counts, one year probation concurrent to each other but consecutive to the DUI count. He must also render an additional 75 hours of community service.
He begins the jail term at 9 a.m. on Sept. 7 and was granted work release privileges.
Peter Scott Barna, 44, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on Oct. 17, 2019, by state police at Lehighton along Interchange Road in Towamensing Township, for DUJ of a controlled substance. He previously pleaded to the charge.
He told the court he is currently receiving mental health counseling.
He was placed in the Restrictive Conditions of Probation program, house arrest, for 60 months with the first 120 days on electronic monitoring. He was also ordered to pay a fine of $1,500, license suspended for 18 months and supply a DNA sample.
Thomas L. Harris, 72, of Tafton, Pike County, was arrested on Aug. 27, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Carney Road in Penn Forest Township. A test revealed a 0.11 BAC.
A first offense, he was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Michele Goodhile, 55, Freemansburg, Northampton County, was arrested on April 9 by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 at Route 248, in Franklin Township. She was charged with DUI of a controlled substance. She refused a test.
She was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, and license suspended for a year.
She also pleaded to driving under suspension - DUI related and was sentenced to serve 45 to 90 days in jail and pay a fine of $500. The jail terms run concurrently.
She is currently an inmate in the county prison on a parole violation.
Matthew Ryan Mazzei, 21, of Palmerton, was arrested on Oct. 2, 2020, by state police at Lehighton. He was involved in a chase that began on Route 248 and ended up in Palmerton. He was charged with DUI of a controlled substance. He refused a test.
He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.
He is currently an inmate in the county prison on pending charges.
Phillip Anthony Dalessandro, 57, of Bangor, was arrested on July 22, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Interchange Road in Franklin Township. He was charged with DUI of a controlled substance.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Colleen M. Nickel, 62, of Palmerton, was arrested on Nov. 24, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Stagecoach Road East in Lower Towamensing Township. A test revealed a 0.27 BAC.
She was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Amber E. Moll, 34, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on May 13 by Jim Thorpe police along Broadview Drive for DUI of a controlled substance. She refused a test.

Nicholas A. Issler, 34, of Harleysville, Montgomery County, was arrested on Sept. 9, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Lehighton. He was charged with DUI of a controlled substance. He refused a test.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Matthew James Gregorec, 44, of Easton, was arrested on Nov. 12, 2020, by Jim Thorpe police along North Street for DUI of a controlled substance.
He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.
He will begin the jail term at 9 a.m. on Sept. 20.
Christopher Allen Person, 29, of Allentown, was arrested on March 18 by state police at Lehighton, for DUI of a controlled substance along Route 443 in Mahoning Township.
Sentencing was deferred so he can apply for the house arrest program.
Michael J. Slizofski, 40, of Allentown, was arrested on June 20, 2019, along Route 209 by Summit Hill police.
He was placed on probation for six months and ordered to pay a fine of $300 and render 25 hours of community service.
Kimber De La Rosa Reyes, 25, of Beaver Meadows, was arrested on Oct. 26, 2020, by state police at Hazleton along Route 93 in Banks Township. A test revealed a 0.22 BAC.
Sentencing was deferred so he can obtain a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Jesus Manuel Lopez Andino, 52, of Jim Thorpe, was arrested on April 9 by Lehighton police along Route 209, for DUI of a controlled substance.
He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, a fine of $1,000, one-year license suspension and render 25 hours of community service.
He will begin the jail term at noon on Aug. 28 and serve two days and again on Sept. 4 and serve one day.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000, pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole or probation and follow any recommendation of their drug and alcohol evaluation.
