The Carbon-Monroe-Pike Drug and Alcohol Commission wants people to know help is available.
That’s why several area organizations have planned two upcoming events.
On Aug. 31, the group will recognize International Overdose Awareness Day at Blue Mountain Community Church, 25 Oak St., Palmerton.
The free event, which will be held from 6:30-8 p.m. will provide residents with resources and free naloxone kits. There will also be a candlelight vigil and butterfly release.
The event is open to everyone, but those who have lost a loved one to an overdose can submit a picture and small paragraph either remembering the person or a message to the loved one to be included in the service. The person’s birth date and death date should also be included.
To send a photo and other information, email Karalyn Dietrich at kdietrich@cmpda.cog.pa.us.
The evening is sponsored by Celebrate Recovery and the Carbon County Drug and Alcohol Commission.
On Sept. 17, the commission will celebrate Recovery Month at Phifer’s Ice Dam, 880 Main Road, Lehighton.
The event will be held from 4-8 p.m. and include speakers, games for children, a cornhole tournament at 4:30 p.m., vendors and crafters, car show, raffle, food trucks, a DJ, face painting, resources that are available, drug and alcohol treatment providers and more.
