Carbon County court
A Bucks County man entered guilty pleas in three pending criminal cases on Aug. 17 in Carbon County court.
He was one of eight defendants in pending cases to enter a guilty plea before Judge Steven R. Serfass.
State time
Mason A. Mahoney, 26, of Perkasie, pleaded to one count each of unauthorized use of a motor vehicle, criminal mischief, theft and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arrested on the unauthorized use count on May 1, 2020, by Lehighton police for taking the 2018 Subaru Forester of a borough resident. Two felony theft counts were dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office. The mischief incident occurred on Aug. 5, 2020, filed by Franklin Township police for an incident at the Country Inn & Suites along Interchange Road, where he damaged the contents of a room.
The theft and drug charge stems from an incident on Aug. 6, 2020, at Mooney’s Motel along State Road filed by Franklin Township police where he took items from a basement at the motel and when arrested was found with drug paraphernalia on him. A felony burglary charge was dropped in a plea deal.
Mahoney is currently an inmate in the Lehigh County prison. In May he was sentenced by Serfass to serve 24 to 60 months in a state correctional institution on two DUI and a criminal trespass charges.
Mahoney admitted to a long history of drug abuse.
Serfass sentenced him to serve a total of three to 24 months in a state prison and ordered he make restitution to Country Inn for $1,651, render 100 hours of community service when paroled, zero tolerance for drug or alcohol use and not enter the Country Inn or Mooney’s Motel properties.
He was given a total credit for 42 days already served on the charges. The sentences run concurrent with his state DUI term.
Court records indicate he has two pending criminal cases in Bucks County. One case involves nine counts including possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance and in the second case a retail theft charge.
Other pleas
Ismael Figueroa-Ramos, 40, of Lansford, pleaded to one count each of fleeing or attempting to elude police and summary offense of driving without a license.
He was arrested on May 18 by Jim Thorpe police. Police attempted to stop him for a traffic violation. He continued to drive despite police behind him with lights and siren activated. He did eventually stop in Nesquehoning. Police noted it was not a high-speed chase but at normal speeds.
On the fleeing charge he was placed on probation for 18 months, and on the suspension count fined $500.
He was also ordered to render 75 hours of community service.
Braemar Omir Parrish, 35, of Allentown, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. In exchange for the plea, felony counts of criminal conspiracy - possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, criminal conspiracy - receiving stolen property and receiving stolen property and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and possession of marijuana were dropped in a plea deal with the DA’s office.
He was arrested on Dec. 27, 2019, by Jim Thorpe police following a traffic stop. At the stop it was learned the vehicle had been reported stolen by Hertz Rental Cars Inc.
He was placed on probation for a year and ordered to make restitution to Hertz for $1,679.73, get a drug and alcohol evaluation and follow any recommendation for treatment and render 50 hours of community service.
Corey Tremane White, 34, of Philadelphia, pleaded in two pending cases to one count each of driving under the influence, obstruction in the administration of law and simple assault.
The first two counts stem from an incident on Jan. 29, along Route 443, filed by Lehighton police. White locked himself in his vehicle and refused to open the door. Police had to force entry. The assault count occurred on Jan. 30 filed by Lehighton police. While White was at the Lehighton hospital he struck a borough officer in the face. He had been taken to the hospital for mental health evaluation which stemmed from the Jan. 29 stop.
Sentencing was deferred pending White getting a drug and alcohol evaluation.
Tempy Ann Cooper, 38, currently an inmate in the county prison, pleaded to one count each of DUI of a controlled substance and summary offense of driving while suspended. She was arrested on June 18 by state police at Lehighton along Route 209 in Towamensing Township. After being stopped, she fled the scene but was later located and taken into custody.
On the DUI count she was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service. On the suspension charge she was fined $200.
Faheim Daquin Sharif Washington, 21, of Philadelphia, pleaded to one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia, accidents to attended property, required financial responsibility (no insurance) and careless driving.
He was arrested on March 24 by Mahoning Township police along Mauch Chunk Street following a hit-and-run crash he was involved in.
On the drug count he was placed on probation for a year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service. On the accidents count he was fined $300; insurance count fined $200, license violation fined $300 and the careless driving, fined $25.
Troy D. Weil, 43, of Weissport, pleaded to one count of DUI of a controlled substance. He was arrested on Oct. 16, 2020, by state police at Lehighton along Bridge Street in Lehighton.
He was sentenced to serve 72 hours to six months in jail, pay a fine of $1,000, license suspended for a year and render 25 hours of community service.
He will begin serving the jail term at 9 a.m. on Aug. 26.
Elad Jacob Jasper, 22, of Jenkintown, Montgomery County, pleaded to one count of possession of drug paraphernalia. He was arrested on June 26, 2020, by Jim Thorpe police. Police responded to the county parking lot off Lehigh Street for a suspicious male. On scene they found Jasper, who had an outstanding warrant for his arrest.
He was sentenced to time-served (24 days) to one year and ordered to get a drug and alcohol evaluation and render 50 hours of community service.
Each defendant sentenced must also pay court costs of about $1,000 and a $50 per month supervision fee while on probation or parole.
