Carbon man admits possessing child pornography

A Carbon County man admitted on Thursday in the county court to possessing child pornography.

Dominic John Caravella, 24, of Weatherly, entered a plea to one count of child pornography before Judge Joseph J. Matika.

Caravella was arrested by the computer crimes unit of the state police. Troopers developed information that Caravella possessed photos and videos of child pornography. He was originally charged with seven counts of child pornography with six counts dropped in a plea deal with the district attorney’s office.

Sentencing was deferred because the charge falls under the provisions of Megan’s Law. Caravella will be evaluated by the state sexual offenders assessment board to determine if he is a violent sexual offender. He is facing 15 years registration period as a sexual offender.
