Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then the traditional service at 11 a.m.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. join us for prayer and praise.

Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. is the youth group event: End of summer fire pit night.

August Mission of the Month is ABC Food Pantry. This is the church’s own food pantry to help their church families and others in the community. Food donations and monetary gifts are welcome to help this wonderful mission.

Micah’s Backpack is currently restocking the shelves for the 2021-22 school year. They help to feed the needy students in the Palmerton Area School District. Food items needed are pasta with sauce (7.5 microwave cups), “Compleats” meals, and gelatin with fruit (individual cups that are nonrefrigerated). Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Park concerts

This weekend there will be two concerts in the Palmerton Borough Park. Saturday evening the Marine Band of Allentown will present a concert in the Park Bandstand from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This concert is sponsored by Carbon County Community Foundation. Sunday evening the Palmerton Band will present a concert in the Park Bandstand from 6:30 to 8 p.m. This concert is sponsored by the Palmerton Bandstand Committee. Bring a lawn chair and enjoy the concerts. The Sunday concert will be the final Concert in the Park for the season.

Food pantry

The CACPAC sponsored Palmerton Food Pantry will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton, on Aug. 27 from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. This pantry supports residents of the Palmerton Area School District only and you will need to show proof of residency and answer questions regarding your income.

This is a drive-thru event, so please remain in your vehicle and follow instructions given by volunteers. If you are unable to attend, someone may pick up for you.

The pantry is always in need of food items, paper items and personal care items. Keep the food pantry in mind as families will need lunchbox items that are quick and easy to pack, such as cereal bars, fruit cups, applesauce cups, brownies, rice krispy treats, and packs/bags of chips and pretzels.

Pantry donations can be left on the porch at 459 Lafayette Ave. A box will be on the porch for donations. Local churches also collect on a regular basis. All donations are greatly appreciated.

Yard sale

A yard sale will be held at St. John’s United Church of Christ, 891 Columbia Ave., Palmerton, on Aug. 28 from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. The kitchen will be open with food for purchase.

JUCC

Come join members of Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, in worship each Sunday at 9 a.m. in the church grove. (in case of inclement weather service will be in the Sanctuary). Wear comfortable clothes and bring a lawn chair. You can also remain in your vehicle and listen on 95.5 FM. Supply pastor Don Quayle will lead the worship.

Refreshments are available prior to the start of service. A sign-up sheet is in Ryman Hall if you wish to supply a baked item or snack.

The next event for the church is the “Happy Bowl” stand at the Palmerton Festival. Sign-up sheets for making and selling will be available soon.

Holy Trinity Lutheran

Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, holds worship service each Sunday at 10:15 a.m. If you plan to attend please call 610-826-2525. If you are unable to attend in person, you may join on Zoom. Please remember to bring food items for the CACPAC food pantry.

Bible study is held on Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. in the fellowship hall.

There will be sign-up sheets in the narthex for baking and working in the stand for the Palmerton Community Festival. This year they will be making molasses tongue cookies and mini cheesecakes.

Thrift shop

The Holy Trinity thrift shop at 502 Lafayette Ave., Palmerton, is open each Tuesday from 9 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. The have a selection of men’s, women’s and children’s clothing. They also have housewares, books and much more.

Concourse Club Art Show

The Concourse Club is hosting its Annual Art & Photography Show in conjunction with the Palmerton Community Festival. The show will be held Sept. 11 from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. and Sept. 12 from 1 p.m. to 4 p.m. at Sacred Heart Church Hall, Third & Lafayette Ave., Palmerton.

The event includes the artist exhibit, Art Market, raffle, and tribute to local artist Jeanne Stemler.

Chalk the Walk

The Concourse Club of Palmerton is hosting in conjunction with the Community Festival and Art Show, Palmerton’s First Chalk the Walk!

Create and share your chalk art for a chance to win a $25 gift card to Claude’s Creamery. This event will be held Sept. 11 from 8 a.m. to noon. Rain date is Sept. 12 from 8 a.m. to noon.

Preregistration is required to participate. Each registrant will be assigned a numbered sidewalk along Delaware Avenue or Third Street.

All chalk must be water-based. A limited amount of chalk will be available to registrants at Sacred Heart Church Hall on Sept. 10 from 5-7 p.m.

Packing party

BWC, Delaware Ave., Palmerton, invites you to help pack shoeboxes for Operation Christmas Child this Thursday from 5-8 p.m. and Friday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the gym. They will be packing 500 shoe boxes. If you are available anytime during these hours, stop by and lend a hand.

All items will be set up and ready to pack in boxes.

Palmerton borough

Until further notice, the facility which accepts chipping materials and yard waste from residents will only be open from 7:30 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. Monday through Friday. The facility is located behind the borough garage on Third Street.

Palmerton Day

Palmerton Day will be held in the Palmerton Park on Sunday from noon to 8 p.m. The music schedule is noon-2 p.m. DJ, 3-5 p.m. Rikki and Friends, 6 p.m. rededication of the bandstand, and 6:30-8 p.m. the Palmerton Band. Activities include face painting, games for kids and adults,

First responder vehicles for kids to tour, hands-only CPR demonstration, blood pressure screenings, nonprofit information tables. Food is available.
