August 18, 1971 - Ann Irving and Susan Eckert both win individual events and are also part of winning relay teams at the third annual Palmerton Memorial Park Association open swim meet. A total of 75 swimmers participate in the event. Irving and Eckert gain first in the 50 freestyle in their age brackets, with Irving contributing to a boys and girls 100 free relay victory and Eckert joining three others in a winning girls 100 free relay team. Others firsts at the meet come from Jim Nonnemaker, Sherry Cseh, Andy Eckert, Delbert Christman, Debbie Kurtz and Peter Frantz.
