Mahoning reviews possible fireworks ordinance

Mahoning Township is in the process of looking into the potential creation of a fireworks ordinance.

Supervisors discussed the topic at Wednesday’s meeting with township solicitor Tom Nanovic, though no action was taken.

Board Chairman Bruce Steigerwalt said the township is merely in the beginning stages.

“We haven’t had Tom prepare an ordinance,” Steigerwalt said.

Steigerwalt said it’s important to get a handle on it so people would know when fireworks could be set off.

Nanovic said they can regulate nuisances and noise.

Steigerwalt said the intent is to arrive at something that’s fair for everyone.

“I think we’re all in agreement we don’t want to ban them,” he said. “We just want to regulate them so people are happy and safe.”
