Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown), holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then the traditional service at 11 a.m.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. join us for prayer and praise.

Aug. 16 at 7 p.m. is church council meeting

Aug. 29 at 6 p.m. is the youth group event - end of summer fire pit night

August Mission of the Month is “ABC Food Pantry.” This is the church’s own food pantry to help their church families and others in the community. Food donations and monetary gifts are welcome to help this wonderful mission.

Micah’s Backpack is currently restocking the shelves for the 2021-22 school year. They help to feed the needy students in the Palmerton Area School District. Food items needed are pasta with sauce (7.5 microwave cups), “Compleats” meals, and gelatin with fruit (individual cups that are nonrefrigerated). Any donations will be greatly appreciated.

Park concert

This Sunday’s Concert in the Palmerton Borough Park will be by Second To None Band from 6:30 to 8 p.m. in the park bandstand. This concert is sponsored by the Palmerton Area Lions Club. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the concert. The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel the concert in case of inclement weather.

Please take notice next weekend there is an addition to the concert list. On Aug. 21 a concert will be by the Allentown Marine Band and Sunday, Aug 22 the concert will be by the Palmerton Band.

Book drive

The Kids for the Community Book Donation Drive is ongoing now until Aug. 31. Drop off any new children’s books at 783 Princeton Ave., Palmerton. A box will be on the porch. The books will be distributed to local day cares and to those in need through September. The drive is in conjunction with national read a book day on Sept. 6, followed by October’s National Book Month. For more information call 610-393-0705 or visit kidsforthecommunity@yahoo.com.

22 block shoot

A 22 block shoot will be held at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club this Friday from 7-10 p.m. This is strictly shoots, no meat raffle. There will be food and drinks available for purchase. Doors open at 6 p.m., shoots start at 7 p.m. Shoots are open to the public and are always smoke free.

All you can eat breakfast

An all you can eat breakfast will be held this Sunday from 8 a.m. to noon at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton. Menu includes home fries, bacon, sausage, ham, hash, eggs, pancakes, SOS, toast and cereal. Beverages include coffee, cocoa, tea, OJ and milk. They are a smoke-free establishment.

Sidewalk sale

A few Palmerton Merchants have decided to have a Sidewalk Sale this Thursday, Friday and Saturday. The following merchants will be participating: My Store, Quilted Crow, Scrubs & More, Greeting Room, This ‘N That, Young’s Jewelers, Palmerton Library, 10th Gate, Colossal Radio and maybe others. The Palmerton Heritage will be Friday only from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.

JUCC community picnic

All are invited to attend the Jerusalem United Church of Christ, Trachsville, annual church picnic this Saturday from noon to 9 p.m. in the church grove. The event is open and ready for lunch at noon. Activities include free kids games and a free kiddie cake walk at 1 p.m.

This year they are happy to announce a new event, a cornhole tournament. Sign up by 2 p.m. and the tournament begins at 2:30 p.m. Everyone will be guaranteed three games. If you have cornhole boards that you don’t mind sharing, please bring them along.

There will be a prize for the winning team, dependent on the number of entries.

Music will be by the Main Street Cruisers at 3, 5 and 7:30 p.m.

At 6:30 p.m. will be Trachsville’s legendary cake walk.

Raffle tickets may be purchased anytime throughout the day with the drawing at 9 p.m.

Bring your lawn chair and enjoy a fun day with food, fun and entertainment. Rain date is Aug. 15.

Collect cans

The Aquashicola Volunteer Fire Company, Little Gap Road, has a trailer at the company grounds to collect aluminum cans and crushed cans. All support is appreciated.

Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, is also collecting cans. They have a shed in their church grove. There are two deposit slots. One for crushed cans and one for uncrushed. Donations are appreciated.
