Tamaqua police log
Tamaqua police reported on the following incidents:
• Michael James Kinsey, 20, of Summit Hill, has been charged with possession of a controlled substance - heroin/fentanyl; possession of drug paraphernalia; possession of an offensive weapon; and driving while operating privilege is suspended or revoked - DUI related.
On July 12 at 4:20 p.m. police stopped a vehicle along North Railroad Street for tinted windows and a registration plate cover.
Kinsey, the driver, admitted his license was under suspension. There was an active warrant for him. He was taken into custody on the warrant. He had a small switchblade knife and multiple empty stamped glassine packets, commonly used to package heroin/fentanyl. Ten clear baggies with blue stamped glassine baggies inside were found in the driver side door. Inside the baggies was a powder substance suspected to be heroin/fentanyl. Charges were filed.
• James Edward Thomas Gilson, 26, of Tamaqua, has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia, texting while driving and improper tires.
On July 24 at 6:21 p.m. police were dispatched to a crash in the area of 501 E. Broad St. Officers observed a station wagon and utility truck involved in the crash, both sustaining disabling damages that required towing. One of the drivers was identified as Gilson, who was being treated by EMS personnel on scene for a head injury. He refused further treatment.
Gilson told police he was distracted while driving because he was on his phone and his vehicle hit the utility vehicle. Gilson admitted that there were needles in the car. In the car, police found one capped hypodermic needle and one broken meth pipe with burned residue inside. Gilson was then taken into custody and charged.
• Dylan David Smolar, 25, of Lebanon, has been charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and defiant trespass. On July 11 at 4:28 p.m. police were dispatched to the rear of a property on the 200 block of Cedar Street. A witness said her son saw a man enter the shed, which had a sign posted “no trespassing.” She said the man was still inside.
Police ordered him to come out. He was identified as Smolar and told officers he was building a model airplane.
Police took him into custody and searched him. He had three capped hypodermic needles, 19 “Jokers Will” glassine baggies, 10 “Indian Chief” glassine baggies and 76 “play time” glassine baggies, all empty, but all commonly used to package heroin/fentanyl. Later a woman notified police that Smolar had been staying with her for about a week and she kicked him out. She said she told him he was not allowed on the property where the shed is located.
• Mandi S. Gossman, 40, of Tamaqua, has been charged with disorderly conduct for an incident on July 29 at 6:10 p.m. Police said Gossman went to a residence in the 300 block of East Elm Street and proceeded to make threats against the woman who resides at a residence and the victim’s daughter.
• Daniel Valentine Jr., 36, and John Zizzo, 61, both of Tamaqua, were cited for disorderly conduct for an incident on July 26 at 11:55 a.m. Police were dispatched to a fight in the street at West Broad and Berwick streets. On scene officers found Valentine and Zizzo rolling on the ground engaged in fighting, The two were separated and each blamed the other for the fight. Valentine refused medical treatment for a knee injury. Both were then cited.
• Kristina Marie St. Peter, 23, of Tamaqua, has been cited for harassment - physical contact. On July 26 at 5:49 p.m. police were dispatched to the area of South Lehigh Street for a domestic incident. On scene a woman told officers that St. Peter, whom she identified as her “ex,” came to her home to talk with her. An argument started with St. Peter attacking the woman. The victim pushed St. Peter out of her house and she left. Charges were filed.
• Ashley M. Rehrig, 33, of Tamaqua, has been charged with dog law violation - allowing animal running at large. On July 21 at 11:25 a.m. police were dispatched to the area of 300 Orwigsburg Street. for a dog bite. On scene a man told officers his dog, which was on a chain to the rear of his house, was attacked by a pit bull. The pit bull bit his dog on its left ear causing a cut to the ear and the side of the head. The male said the dog came from Rehrig’s residence. Police went to Rehrig’s residence and knocked on the door several times with no answer. Police attempted to leave a phone message on her voicemail, which was not set up for messages. Charges were filed.
