OTOH meeting

Operation: Touch of Home will be meeting at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the American Legion Post Home on Route 209 in Gilbert.

Knit and crochet

Zion Lutheran’s Knit & Crochet folks will be doing their good work again starting at 1 p.m. on Tuesday.

Cleanup time

The Western Pocono Women’s Club will begin the club’s West End Fair preparation at 9 a.m. next Wednesday and clean and stock their stand.

Scheduled also for next week for this service group is making their soups.

Hoagie sale

McMichaels UMC will be accepting orders for hoagies through Aug. 12. They must be picked up at the church Aug. 19, by noon.

Chicken barbecue dinner

Effort UMC will hold a chicken barbecue seasoned dinner from 1 to 6 p.m. - unless sold out - Aug. 14.

It is a curbside pickup-only event.

Welcome reception

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church has announced its welcome reception for the congregation’s new pastor, Father Bob Simon, for all Masses on Aug. 14 and Aug. 15.

During the Masses on those days the church will celebrate the Blessings of Herbs on the Feast of the Assumption.

Worshippers can bring their herbs in a container or wrapped bouquet and place them on the altar steps to be blessed.

Dispensation ends

Since March 2020, there has been a dispensation in the Diocese of Scranton from the obligation to participate at Mass on Sundays and Holy Days of Obligation. In light of the continued decline in cases and hospitalizations locally, that dispensation will end on Aug. 15, the Solemnity of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This change will occur in each diocese in Pennsylvania on the same date.

Habitat fundraiser

Habitat for Humanity of Monroe County is having its 24th annual golf tournament fundraiser at Great Bear Golf Club on Sept. 24.

Flea market set

St. Peter’s UMC, Saylorsburg has announced its fall flea market. It is slated for 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16.

Folks are invited to bring and sell their items.

Vendors are encouraged to call 570-992-6930 to reserve a site or table.

The church will offer a food table filled with home-baked items and lunch fare.
