Registration open for Pick Up the Poconos Day

The Pocono Mountains Visitors Bureau is seeking volunteers for its next regionwide litter pickup day on Sept. 25 from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m., rain or shine. Please help spread the word by sharing the event on Facebook.

Anyone interested in helping the cause should sign up on PickUpThePoconos.com. The deadline to register is Sept. 20 by 5 p.m.

Volunteers can select to clean one location in Carbon, Monroe, Pike or Wayne County. The bureau is currently working with the listed townships and boroughs to identify which roads need to be cleaned. That information will be relayed to volunteers closer to the event date via the contact information they share on the sign-up form.

Thanks to the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation and Keep Pennsylvania Beautiful, the PMVB provides “supply kits” containing gloves, trash bags, safety vests and trash grabbers.

Pick Up the Poconos Day launched in 2018, and within four cleanups, hundreds of volunteers have removed nearly 2,500 bags of litter. Although the annual event is typically held in late September, the PMVB added a smaller-scale spring cleanup on April 24 in response to the high volume of trash on our region’s roads.

This event is just one component of the PMVB’s “Pick Up the Poconos” campaign.
