Fern Ridge State Police - DUI charges

Nine people, including eight who were stopped for Motor Vehicle Code violations, and another who was involved in a crash, are facing driving under the influence charges.

State police at the Fern Ridge barracks said the drivers stopped included:

• A 29-year-old man from Kunkletown who was stopped at 5:39 p.m. July 19 at the intersection of Interchange Road and Horseshoe Drive in Polk Township. He was discovered to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of multiple controlled substances and related paraphernalia.

• A 56-year-old Effort man who was stopped at 12:48 a.m. July 23 at the intersection of Route 715 and Mountain Road in Jackson Township. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol.

• A 47-year-old Blakeslee man who was stopped at 1:22 a.m. July 8 at the intersection of Route 209 and Dairy Lane in Chestnuthill Township. He was discovered to be under the influence of a controlled substance. Police later found him to be in possession of multiple controlled substances and related paraphernalia.

• A 22-year-old Gouldsboro man who was stopped at 2:31 a.m. July 22 on Interstate 80 in Kidder Township. He was discovered to be under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of a firearm without appropriate credentials, as well as a controlled substance and related paraphernalia.

• A 55-year-old Hazle Township man who was stopped at 12:15 p.m. July 21 in Interstate 80 in Tobyhanna Township. Police said he appeared to be under the influence of a controlled substance.

• A 38-year-old man from the Bronx, New York, who was stopped at 2:15 a.m. July 25 at the intersection of Route 715 and Doll Road in Jackson Township. Police said he was found to be under the influence of alcohol and was driving with his 11-year-old son in the car with him.

• A 54-year-old man from Effort who was stopped at 7:41 p.m. July 1 at the intersection of Smith Road and Route 903 in Penn Forest Township. Police said he was found to be driving under the influence of a controlled substance and in possession of methamphetamine and related paraphernalia.

• Elijah Mattaur, 23, of Effort, who was stopped at 6:55 p.m. July 3 at the intersection of Westbrook Road and Bluegrass Lane in Chestnuthill Township. In addition to Mattaur being charged with DUI, police charges his passenger, Damon Harper, 25, of Scranton, with possession of drugs and paraphernalia.

• The crash happened at 10:47 p.m. July 13 at the intersection of Sugar Hollow Road and Route 715 in Chestnuthill Township and involved a 58-year-old man from Saylorsburg. Police said they found his 1999 Ford Ranger overturned and the man to be under the influence of alcohol.
