Schuylkill Co. plans fall cleanup

Residents in Schuylkill County can participate in the fall cleanup this year.

Commissioners voted Wednesday that residents in Pottsville, Minersville, Girardville, Schuylkill Haven, Ringtown, New Ringgold, Mahanoy City, and Tremont boroughs along with Hegins, North Manheim, Wayne, Porter, Pine Grove, and Branch townships and CES Landfill and the Tamaqua Transfer station can take part in the September 7 to 15 event.

Acceptable items will include tires, appliances and bulky items. Electronics will not be accepted. Site locations will be available on the Schuylkill County website, co.Schuylkill.pa.us

Bids for the collection of tires and recycling will be accepted in the controllers office until 3 p.m. Aug. 9. Bid opening is scheduled for 9 a.m. Aug. 11 with awarding possible at the Aug. 18 board meeting.

In other business, commissioners voted to designate Shannon Darker of Arro Consulting as a zoning officer for the county. William McMullen was selected as the alternate zoning officer.

The firm Light Heigel was the contracted for the services before commissioners voted to terminate the contract.

“We we’re not happy with some of the services,” Count Administrator Gary Bender said.

Commissioner Barron “Boots” Hetherington did not attend the meeting.

Commissioners also approved the following:

* Update the software and support agreement with Infor Emergency Services, Tampa, Florida for software and 24/7 support of the CAD system installed in 2002. Cost is three installments of $93,396.27. Schuylkill Communications Director Scott Krater said there is money available for the expense.

*Entered into a contract, which is a renewal, with Cyan Sky Copier Technologies for leasing through CIT Leasing for 21 copiers and 2 printers for various county offices. Term of contract is 60. Cost is $70,403.

* Applied for a STOP Grant for $375,000 due Aug. 3. The application will support the Schuylkill County District Attorney’s Office, the Schuylkill Hope Center for Victims of Domestic Violence and the Sexual Assault Resource and Counseling center.
