Lehighton dedicates pool pavilion, starts memorial fund

It was a night where Baer Memorial Swimming Pool came to life and took on a magical feel all its own.

In excess of 175 attendees converged at the site earlier this month for an event staged by the Lehighton Area Pool Pals.

Those who did witnessed the dedication of a brand-new pool pavilion, and later participated in Family Fun Night, according to Mark Hoffman, chairman of Lehighton Area Pool Pals.

The Rev. Nancy Moore, pastor of Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, provided the blessing and official dedication of the pavilion, whose nameplate will read, “For the Community, Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 2021.”

“A donation from Trinity Lutheran Church, along as well as donations from many other generous businesses, residents and organizations allowed the pavilion to move from an idea talked about for many years and to become a permanent structure for all to enjoy,” Hoffman said. “The pavilion will offer patrons of the pool a place to escape the rays of the sun, and a place where families and friends will gather to make memories celebrating birthdays and other special events.

He said there will be a plaque fastened to the pavilion over the winter recognizing those who donated a minimum of $250 toward the construction of the pavilion.

Hoffman said the official naming of the pavilion was commemorated with the symbolic breaking of a water balloon thrown by the Rev. Moore.

He said that following the dedication of the pavilion, Family Fun night took over with the first event being the ever popular water balloon toss.

Hoffman said the entire night was filled with many new and old family games for both young and old to enjoy.

“This year’s Family Fun Night took on a slightly different feel knowing that 100% of the money raised would go toward the newly-established Linda Schoenberger memorial swim fund,” he said. “Linda’s daughters both shared some heart touching words of how much this fund would mean to their mother, knowing how much their mother always did for others without looking for anything in return.”

Hoffman noted the fund will help provide assistance to those members of the community struggling to afford the cost of a season ticket.

He said anyone who would like to support the fund should see any Pool Pal member and explain that they would like to contribute to the Linda Schoenberger memorial swim fund.

Hoffman said additional information as to how to apply for assistance from the fund will be communicated later this year in preparation of the 2022 swimming season.
