Carbon County crashes

State police at Lehighton reported on two recent Carbon County crash investigations.

• A two-vehicle crash was reported at 7:09 p.m. on July 17 along Route 209 (Interchange Road), near Red Hill Road, in Towamensing Township.

Troopers said Donald R. Corbett, 57, of Easton, was northbound and traveling at a high rate of speed when his 2019 Mazda 3 crossed over the centerline and in front of a 2003 Hyundai Elantra driven by James E. Ross, 43, of Easton.

The Mazda went off the road and struck a tree. Ross avoided a collision with the Mazda by swerving into the opposing lane of travel. Debris from the pole struck Ross’ vehicle.

Corbett freed himself from his vehicle and was taken to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Cedar Crest, by Palmerton ambulance.

Ross was not injured. The Mazda had to be towed.

Troopers were assisted at the scene by volunteers from the Towamensing Township Fire Company.

Corbett was cited for driving a vehicle at an unsafe speed.

• A one-vehicle crash was reported at 6:06 p.m. on July 25 along Route 248 in Palmerton. Troopers said Wanda L. Miller, 51, of Lehighton, was driving a 2004 Jeep Grand Cherokee westbound when she became distracted while using the radio in the vehicle.

The vehicle then collided into an attenuator, which caused the Jeep to flip forward into the air before landing on its roof in the travel lanes.

Miller was taken to St. Luke’s Hospital, Lehighton, by Palmerton ambulance. The vehicle was towed.
