State police at Stroudsburg

State police at Stroudsburg reported on the incidents in Monroe County:

• On June 26 at 3:01 a.m. troopers attempted to stop a 2013 Suzuki Suzulight being driven by a wanted person along Morningside Terrace at Keystone Road in Middle Smithfield Township. Troopers were able to stop the vehicle a short time later and identified the driver as Jesse McGrath, 31, of Bushkill. He was found to be under the influence of alcohol and in possession of illegal substances and drug paraphernalia.

He was placed under arrest and transported to the county prison in Snydersville for processing.

• On June 27 at 3:35 a.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop along Interstate 80 eastbound in Hamilton Township for traffic violations. It was determined the driver, Aaron Baez, 25, of Tobyhanna, was under the influence and taken into custody. He was taken to the county prison for processing.

• On April 27 at 4:08 p.m. troopers conducted a traffic stop along Route 209 in Hamilton Township for speeding. The driver, Joseph Sylvester, 26, of Minersville, Schuylkill County, was found to be under the influence of drugs and was placed under arrest. He was taken to the county prison for processing.

• State police at Stroudsburg said on June 30 the criminal investigation unit received multiple ChildLine referrals related to child sexual abuse by David Sturniolo, 56, of Forest Lake Drive, Middle Smithfield Township, East Stroudsburg. Interviews were conducted where it was alleged that Sturniolo had sexually assaulted two minor females, about 6 and 9 years old, from 2008 through 2013 at his residence.

He was arraigned before District Judge Brian Germano, of Delaware Water Gap. He was charged with two counts each of aggravated indecent assault, indecent assault of person under 13 and unlawful contact with a minor, all felonies; and two counts of corruption of a minor, misdemeanors. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail. Charges were bound to county court.

• Troopers said at 12:11 a.m. on July 16 they were dispatched to Muller’s Diner, locate at 5138 Milford Road, in Middle Smithfield Township, for a report of shots fired. Prior to the arrival of the troopers all the parties involved in the incident had left the scene.

Through interviews and surveillance footage, it was discovered that a man was assaulted while sitting at the bar. The victim appeared to have been stabbed in the right side of his face. After the victim was assaulted, a fight broke out within the bar involving multiple people and the victim. During the fight, a gun fell to the ground and was picked up by someone who ran outside.

The struggle continued from the bar into the entrance of the diner. The victim attempted to leave the scene in his vehicle when an unidentified person fired two shots at the moving vehicle.

Troopers did not indicate if anyone was injured in the shooting. No other details were released.
