Polk Twp. amending ordinances
Polk Township is amending its subdivision and land development ordinance, zoning ordinance and medical marijuana ordinance.
The three supervisors briefly addressed the three ordinances at their monthly meeting on Monday. There will be a public hearing for all three ordinances in September.
A new section will be added to the subdivision ordinance and it pertains to work on township roadways.
Specifically, it states that any work on township roadways or rights of way, including realignments, shall only be performed by contractors approved by the township prior to any work being done.
Such contractors must be qualified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania Department of Transportation.
Amendments to the zoning ordinance include a new section that states recreational vehicles, campers and tents may not be used as short-term rentals under any circumstance; replacing the definition of recreational cabin with new wording; replacing the definition of storage unit with new wording; revised wording pertaining to soil erosion, sedimentation and stormwater control; and revised wording in the township road bond section.
The medical marijuana ordinance will be a new section of text.
“We have extensively reviewed this with the planning commission. Right now, we do not have any language saying where it is approved,” said solicitor James Fareri.
Medical marijuana grower/processors, transport vehicle offices and dispensaries would be permitted as a conditional use in the commercial and industrial district.
The six-page document includes definitions, use regulations, statutory and regulatory requirements, and penalties.
In other business:
• Supervisors approved the $74,780 payment for seal coat recently done to Valley Road West, Scheller Hill and Doney Road.
• There is a park and recreation meeting at 6 p.m. this Thursday. They would like to plan an educational event for families in September.
It would include vendors and children’s activities.
• Polk residents who participate in Pick up the Poconos on Sept. 25 may leave trash bags along the road, and township staff will haul them away.
Trash pickup will occur 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.
