A man who led police on a high-speed chase on the Pennsylvania Turnpike last week was found in possession of an illegal handgun.
Dashaun B. Wiltshire, 25, of Brooklyn, New York, was arrested after crashing his vehicle early Tuesday morning. There were two passengers in the vehicle including a pregnant woman.
Around 1:30 a.m., state police clocked Wiltshire driving at 103 mph on Northeast Extension (I-476), just north of the Route 903 exit.
He reportedly ignored their attempts to pull him over and continued until the next exit, for Interstate 80. While driving on the off-ramp, Wiltshire crashed the 2020 Toyota Camry he was driving.
Police took him into custody, and spotted a .44-caliber Smith & Wesson handgun on the floor in front of the passenger seat.
While in custody, Wiltshire reportedly had a seizure. Police said prior to the seizure he was sitting in the back seat of the cruiser, and reported feeling nauseous. When they took him out, he seized.
Two women in the vehicle with him during the crash said they were not injured. One of the women said she was pregnant, so police called a second ambulance for her.
Police said that throughout his arrest, Wiltshire refused to give his name. He was identified through a portable fingerprint scanner. They learned that he had a warrant in New York for violating parole on a previous conviction.
He also was barred from possessing firearms due to previous felony convictions for robbery, and had no driver’s license.
Wiltshire was arraigned and sent to Carbon County Correctional Facility with bail set at $75,000.
A preliminary hearing was scheduled for Aug. 4.
