Tamaqua man faces DUI charges

Tamaqua police reported a borough resident is being charged with driving under the influence.

Police said on May 7 at 4:40 p.m. they were dispatched to 301 Schuylkill Ave., for an overdose. A man was found slumped over the wheel of a vehicle, unconscious but breathing.

The man was identified as Frank Joseph Ditchey, 57, of Washington Street. EMS arrived on scene and got Ditchey out of the vehicle. As he was standing to be evaluated by the EMS personnel who showed signs of impairment. Due to his condition no field sobriety tests were attempted.

A search was conducted and a makeshift pipe was found on Ditchey and a pill bottle for prescribed to Ditchey for clonazepam was located. Ditchey agreed to a blood draw at St. Luke’s Miners Hospital in Coaldale. Ditchey said he took the prescribed medication, which calls for one tablet twice a day, if needed.

After the blood draw, police transported Ditchey back to his home. On the way back, police said, Ditchy admitted to taking one more clonazepam than prescribed.
