Nesquehoning police have filed additional charges against a man arrested in a drug bust earlier this year.
Salvatore Canzoneri, 33, now faces 20 counts of criminal use of a communication facility in addition to a drug dealing charge filed following a police raid in January.
Police said the new charges are based on messages recovered from his cellphone and statements he made in jailhouse phone calls.
After Canzoneri’s arrest Nesquehoning Police obtained a search warrant for his cellphone. They reportedly found hundreds of messages about buying and selling drugs, including pictures that they identified as showing drugs and paraphernalia.
They said he also admitted to selling drugs on a call made from Carbon County Correctional Facility. When inmates use the phone at the jail, they hear a message which says all calls can be monitored and recorded.
During the Jan. 21 drug bust, police found a scale with crystal methamphetamine residue inside a room where they said Canzoneri was staying, and hundreds of bags used to package drugs. They charged him with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
Police also filed the same charges against another woman who was living in the house.
They said the raid was conducted after multiple overdoses at the home.
Canzoneri was arraigned on the new charges last week, with bail set at $250,000.
He is also facing charges for the alleged assault of another inmate.
A preliminary hearing has been set for Wednesday at Magisterial District Court in Lansford.
