Schuylkill Chamber seeking input

A survey by the Schuylkill Chamber of Commerce seeks input to keep Schuylkill County within the 9th Congressional District.

The chamber, Schuylkill Economic Development Corporation and Northeast PA Manufacturers and Employers Council are sending out the survey.

The U.S. Census data has been delayed due to COVID-19. The data from the Census is used to redistrict House and Senate seats and to reapportion congressional districts from 18 to 17 in Pennsylvania.

“It’s going to expand from there,” Robert S. Carl, president and CEO of the chamber said.

The survey was created last week. It asks “I support geographically keeping Schuylkill County unified as a whole in the 9th Congressional District currently represented by Congressman Dan Meuser.

The second one says “I urge the members of Schuylkill County’s State Delegation representing Senatorial District 29 and Legislative Districts 123, 124 and 125 to advocate on my behalf to keep Schuylkill County unified in the 9th Congressional District.”

Carl said 60 responses were received as of Tuesday. Answers will go into an Excel spreadsheet the chamber is keeping.

“This is going out for a number of weeks,” Carl said.

He said the chamber did a similar push for advocacy for the area in 2010.

“It’s not Republican. It’s not Democrat. It’s not political in any way,” Carl said.
