Walnutport awards bids for street projects

Walnutport will utilize Community Development Block Grant money to complete a street project.

Borough council unanimously agreed on Thursday to award a bid in the amount of $277,110 to Bellview Pump, pending review by the borough and Northampton County.

Borough engineer Jason Newhard said the project will include street overlay, a new water main, service lines and storm sewer upgrades as needed on part of the 800 and 900 blocks of Lincoln Avenue.

The borough had previously received $300,000 in CDBG funds, and $20,000 courtesy of the Community Investment Partnership Program through Northampton County, for the project.

Borough grant coordinator Michael Wentz previously said the Lincoln Avenue water main replacement project is a joint venture between the borough and the Walnutport Municipal Authority.

Also on Thursday, council awarded a street project to Asphalt Maintenance Solutions in the amount of $62,640.

The project is to rehabilitate Fifth Street, Cherry Street, and the 100 and 200 blocks of Oak Street, all of which are deteriorating.

Council said it would pay for the project through liquid fuels and the general fund.

Council also agreed to make a payment for its maintenance building roof.

The payment to JB Roofing Systems is in the amount of $42,709, after 10% is held in retainer until project closeout.

In March, council awarded a bid to the company in the amount of $51,528 for the repair project at 100 Carbon St.

The roof has been installed.
