Any local families in need of canned hamburger or turkey are in luck.
Carbon County Commissioner Rocky Ahner said Thursday that 9,000 pounds of the product are set to be distributed through the nine area food pantry centers affiliated with the Shepherd House.
“We ordered that and we hope to have that out to the food pantries in a week or two,” Ahner said. “The reason for that is some of the places don’t have as much freezer space and they can’t keep a lot of the meat that is donated to them, so we’re going with the canned product.”
The food pantries are located in:
• St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 19 Second St., Beaver Meadows.
• Ebenezer Evangelical Congregational Church, 441 Center Ave., Jim Thorpe.
• Trinity Lutheran Church, 104 E. Abbott St., Lansford.
• Trinity Evangelical Lutheran Church, 175 S. Third St., Lehighton.
• Meed’s Memorial United Methodist Church, 126 W. Catawissa St., Nesquehoning.
• St. John’s Towamensing Lutheran Church, 2915 Fireline Road, Palmerton.
• Summit Hill Heritage Center, 1 W. Hazard St., Summit Hill.
• Banks Township Municipal Building, Cherry and Fern streets, Tresckow.
• Zion’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 335 Third St., Weatherly.
