Palmerton news for July 14, 2021

Faith Alive Church

Faith Alive Church, 678 Pine St., Palmerton (Bowmanstown) holds two services each Sunday with Pastor Rob Timlin. At 8:30 a.m. is the contemporary service followed by Sunday school for all ages at 9:45 a.m. and then the traditional service at 11 a.m. Four options of worship: In the sanctuary, in Leah’s Room (mask required), in the parking lot (FM 104.3) or Faith Alive Facebook Live.

Every Wednesday at 7 p.m. is prayer and praise.

July 26 at 7 p.m. is staff parish meeting.

Micah’s Backpack: The church helps to feed needy students in the Palmerton Area School District. We are in need of donations of gelatin with fruit (individual cups that are nonrefrigerated), microwave popcorn, and ramen noodle packs (only Maruchan brand) or money to stock the shelves. Please make sure the food has an expiration date later than December 2021.

“ABC Food Pantry” is available for those in need. Contact the church office for assistances If you would like to donate canned goods or nonperishables to help out the needy in our area, then please drop them off at the church.

“July Mission of the Month” Peaceful Knights - it’s a not-for-profit corporation formed to help those in need to a temporary, safe shelter and access to local organizations that provide assistance.

Palmerton Area Library

An in-person event “Create a Creature” a mixed media collage will be held at the library on July 21 at 4 p.m. for ages 10-12.

Make sure to check out the Facebook page for information on special reading activities, library scavenger hunts, online trivia and escape rooms.

Park concert

This week’s Sunday in the Park Concert will be by Inch & the Echoes from 7-8:30 p.m. in the borough park bandstand. The concert is sponsored by George’s Plumbing, Heating & Fuel Inc. Bring a lawn chair or blanket and enjoy the concert.

The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel a concert in case of inclement weather.

On July 25, the concert will be by Steel Creek.

Palmerton council

Palmerton Borough Council will hold their next meeting on July 22 at 7 p.m. in Borough Hall Council Chambers, 443 Delaware Ave.

Living Hope Lighthouse Church

Living Hope Lighthouse Church, 705 Third St., Palmerton, will hold Sunday worship service at 10 a.m. Operation Bookbag school supply collection begins July 18 and goes through Aug. 15. You can help children in need for this upcoming school year. A table is set up for you to put your donations.

JUCC

Through the summer months Jerusalem United Church of Christ, 545 Church Drive, Trachsville, holds worship services in the church grove at 9 a.m. weather permitting. Services will be held in the church in the case of inclement weather.

Bring your lawn chairs, dress comfortably, and sit in family units. You can also remain in your vehicle and listen on 95.5 FM. Supply Pastor Don Quayle will lead the worship.

They are now having refreshments at Sunday service and you may sign up to bring a baked item or snack. The sign-up sheet is in Ryman Hall.

On July 20 from 6:30 to 8:45 p.m. will be a Christmas in July event. This is a JUCC family and friends event that includes games, crafts, stories, an ice cream eating contest, as well as a campfire with s’mores and Christmas carols. All children must be accompanied by an adult. They will be accepting donations to the Christmas Shoebox Outreach.

Items such as new art supplies, stuffed plushies, socks, etc. and the items must be able to fit in a shoebox sized package.

Jerusalem ELC

Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, 500 Church Drive, Trachsville, is now on its summer worship schedule with services starting at 9 a.m. This is both inside and outside the church as before. All are welcome.

Jerusalem ELC picnic

The Jerusalem Evangelical Lutheran Church, Trachsville, annual Sunday school picnic will be held Aug. 7. The picnic will start at noon. Services with guest speaker Roger Borger will be at 2 p.m. Afternoon activities include a Kiddie cake walk and fish pond at 3 p.m. Evening activities include a cake walk for all ages at 6:30 p.m. followed by a raffle drawing.

Live music by Last One Standing will begin at 4 p.m. Come enjoy great food and fellowship.

Zinc City

Zinc City Cycle Club, Interchange Road (Route 209), Kresgeville will hold a Carnival Run this Sunday. Sign in from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. The run is open to the public.

Breakfast

An all-you-can-eat breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon this Sunday at the Bowmanstown Rod & Gun Club, 525 Club Road, Palmerton.

Menu items include eggs to order, potatoes, pancakes, SOS, toast, cereal, hash, ham, bacon, sausage, OJ, coffee, tea and milk.
