July 13, 1946 - Coaldale’s Tilly Salvadore collects two hits and scores a pair of runs to help the West squad defeat the East, 8-1, in the annual Panther Valley League All-Star game. Tamaqua’s Roy Calabrese and Johnny Sotak each chip in with two hits, while Billy Secone, also from Tamaqua, finishes with a hit and two runs scored. Coaldale’s Joe Klepic adds a hit and a run, and also starts on the mound for the winners, who use a four-run second inning to take control of the game. Tamaqua’s Curt Maeder and Lansford’s Elwood Sibbach also see action on the hill as the West’s hurlers combine on a four-hitter.
