Valley West tops Tamaqua for D18 title

Tamaqua’s dream of a District 18 10-12 Little League championship came to an end Sunday as Valley West posted a 19-0 victory to capture this year’s title.

Tamaqua reached the final round, battling back through the loser’s bracket, with a win Saturday against Valley East.

In Sunday’s contest, Valley West wasted no time taking control, scoring four runs in the first inning and extending its advantage to 7-0 in the second. The eventual champions sealed the deal with a 10-run fifth frame.

Tamaqua managed only one hit - a single by Gavan Hess - against two Valley West hurlers, who combined to strike out 10. Jack Esposito was the winner, tossing the first 4 1/3 innings.

Logan Hearity had five hits - including three doubles - for Valley West and knocked in four runs, while Chris Knelly blasted a pair of homers and finished with four RBIs.
