Man found dead from carbon monoxide gas from generator

An East Stroudsburg man was found dead in his home Wednesday night after apparently inhaling a high level of Carbon Monoxide gas from a generator used due to power outages.

At 10:54 p.m. Wednesday, Stroudsburg State Police along with Bushkill EMS, Suburban EMS and the Marshall’s Creek Volunteer Fire Department, responded to a home in the 100 block of Murray Hill Road, Middle Smithfield Township, for a report of an unresponsive man.

Upon arrival, first responders identified a deadly level of Carbon Monoxide gas in the residence, along with noxious fumes.

A gas generator was located inside the residence in the on position, and appeared to have run until it was out of fuel.

The generator appeared to have been utilized due to power outages related to recent storms.

The victim, Naseem Kareem, 21, was found deceased in a bedroom area.

The Monroe County Coroner’s Office responded to the scene, and the Monroe County District Attorney’s Office was notified.

An autopsy was being conducted.

Trooper Justin M. Leri with the Criminal Investigation Unit is conducting the investigation.
