A roof fire broke out at the construction site of the new Lehigh Valley Hospital - Carbon Campus Tuesday afternoon in Mahoning Township.
Mahoning Valley Fire Chief Mark Ebbert said firefighters were dispatched at 2:50 p.m. to the hospital, located cattycorner to the Walmart Superstore on Blakeslee Boulevard.
“The fire was basically knocked down at the time of arrival,” Ebbert said. “On-site construction workers had used fire extinguishers to knock the fire down before we got there.”
Ebbert said there was no damage to the structure, and that crews remained on scene for about an hour.
“Our crews had removed the burned roofing material from the roof the ground to check for any hot spots to check that everything was out,” he said. “Minor damage; basically some roof materials that were staged on top of the roof itself.”
Ebbert said there were no injuries.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation.
The Lehighton Fire Department and Mahoning Valley Ambulance assisted at the scene.
