Local roundup: Results from July 6

Franklin Township advanced in the District 18 8-10-year-old Little League Tournament with a big win Tuesday night.

Jim Thorpe also posted a victory in Lehigh Valley Connie Mack action.

8-10 Tournament

Tamaqua Blue-Franklin

Franklin Township knocked off Tamaqua Blue 14-4 in five innings to capture the District 18 8-10-year-old Red Tournament title.

Brian Mriss was 3-for-4, including a double, with two RBIs and three runs scored for Franklin. Owen Moyer also had three hits, with two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Brock Atwood (three RBIs, two runs scored), and Carter Spotts (two RBIs) both had two hits.

Franklin will move on to face Valley West, champions of the Blue Tournament, Friday at 6 p.m. in a best-of-three series. All games are being played at Valley East Little League field.

For Tamaqua, Chayse Barron was 2-for-2 with a run scored, while Bryce Eltringham drove in two runs and Ryder Holmberg had a hit, an RBI and a run scored.

Wilson-Jim Thorpe

A pair of runs in the bottom of the third inning helped Jim Thorpe edge Wilson 2-1 in a Lehigh Valley Connie Mack contest.

Casey McArdle opened the scoring with an RBI-single to plate Tanner Yurchak, who walked, and move Rich Strack to third base. Strack (1-for-3) scored on a wild pitch to give Thorpe the lead. Chip Baldassano was 2-for-3 with a double, while Nick Pantages also collected a hit.

On the mound, Strack scattered six hits over seven innings pitched, striking out six without allowing a walk.

Moore Twp.-Franklin Twp.

Moore Township went ahead early and pulled away for a 13-1 win over Franklin Township in Lehigh Valley Connie Mack action.

Brayden Rader was 2-for-3 with two RBIs for Moore, which built an 8-0 lead after two innings. Samuel Erschen doubled with two RBIs and had three runs scored, and Mason Haupt added a pair of hits to go along with an RBI and a run scored.

Michael Yeakel was 2-for-2 with an RBI for Franklin. Aiden Rarick collected a doubled and scored a run.

Keystone Orioles-

Berlinsville Braves

The Berlinsville Braves and Keystone Precision Orioles played to a 2-2 tie in Blue Mountain League action.

Colin Houck was 1-for-3 with a two-run homer in the bottom of the third inning for the Braves (2-13-1). Jeremy Laureano added two hits, and Matt Mellinger and Alec Bove both doubled.

Zach Delp had a two-run blast for the Orioles (15-3-1) in the top of the fifth inning to tie it, while Nick Delp also had two hits.

Action was called for rain in the bottom of the seventh inning reverting back to a tie game in the sixth inning.
