A holiday weekend

Beltzville State Park closed early Sunday morning when it filled to capacity, with cars lining up on Pohopoco and Pine Run Road. Some of the spillover migrated to Mauch Chunk Lake Park in Jim Thorpe, resulting in the county park also filling and closing by 10:30 a.m. That didn’t stop motorists from trying to get there. Lentz Trail was blocked in both of its two lanes by scores of vehicles trying to get to the beach. RON GOWER/SPECIAL TO THE TIMES NEWS

ABOVE: Fireworks light the sky Sunday night, thanks to the sixth annual Fourth of July fireworks display at the Lehighton Outdoor Center. The fireworks, hosted by the Lehighton Downtown Initiative, were sponsored by Jim Thorpe Neighborhood Bank, St. Luke's University Health Network and Lehigh Valley Health Network.
