It may be the Fourth of July weekend, but Walnutport Police Department has stressed the borough does have an ordinance on the books that forbids loud fireworks.
The department posted Thursday night on its Facebook page that the borough has an ordinance “prohibiting loud, boisterous noises, which includes fireworks.”
“As a reminder, if you are caught setting off fireworks, no matter the time of year, you will be prosecuted,” the post states. “We have caught two individuals, and are currently investigating a third individual, within this past week, thanks to a couple of residents who weren’t afraid to make the complaint to us.”
The department asks residents who see anyone setting off any kind of explosive device to be vigilant and get as much information as possible, such as clothing description, vehicle make, model, registration plate, direction of travel. They are then to contact the police department through the Lehigh County Communications Center at 610-437-5252.
“We are doing our best to locate and apprehend the actors, but unfortunately we cannot be everywhere at the same time, so we rely on witnesses to provide us with as much information as possible.”
