Palmerton approves procurement card program

Palmerton has agreed to participate in a state procurement card program.

Borough council on Thursday approved a resolution that authorizes the borough’s participation in the Pennsylvania Local Government Investment Trust procurement card program.

PFM Financial Services LLC has agreed to administer, on behalf of participating local governments and schools in the State of Pennsylvania, a procurement card system, a corporate MasterCard.

The procurement cards will be issued to the borough manager, police chief, and public works supervisor, by Bank of Montreal, a Canadian-chartered bank, with a branch at 115 S. LaSalle St., Chicago.

The cards will be used to procure supplies and other products for borough purposes, and each of the individuals with the cards will have a monetary limit on the cards.

The employees would need to sign a member account agreement and an agreement of indemnity.

Council had attempted to find such a card program locally, and even nationally, before setting up the service with PLGIT.

According to PLGIT’s website, “PLGIT was created in 1981 to meet the short-term investment needs of local governments, school districts, municipal authorities, and other types of governments in the commonwealth of Pennsylvania. We now serve more than 3,000 public entity investors across the commonwealth and cooperatively invest more than $6.9 billion across multiple programs.”
