Palmerton’s free concert series relaunches on Sunday

Palmerton’s free Sunday Night Summer Concert Series is set to relaunch in the borough park.

That will no doubt be music to the ears of the guests who flock to the park as the sweet sound of music bellows from inside the new and improved bandstand on Independence Day, no less.

The Bandstand Committee of the Palmerton Concourse Club has released the schedule for the 32nd annual Sunday Concerts in the Park season, which will see the Palmerton Band perform from 7-8:30 p.m. Sunday.

Joann Kercsmar, who co-chairs the committee with Mata Curran, the founder of the concert series, said the series will continue Sundays through August after the Palmerton Band previously performed June 13.

“We survive by donations,” Kercsmar said. “The iffiness of the pandemic changed us not to have a full slate of concerts.”

Kercsmar noted that Sunday concerts in July run from 7-8:30 p.m., while Sunday concerts in August run from 6:30-8 p.m.

“With the pandemic and sponsorship, it’s been tough,” she said. “We are grateful for the sponsors that come through.”

Kercsmar said they are always accepting donations, which are accepted even on the night of the concerts.

“We want to thank our generous sponsors, plus the Horsehead Community Development Fund, Palmerton Lions Club, and Lehigh Valley Health Network,” she said.

The Sunday Night Summer Concert Series schedule is as follows:

• July 4: Palmerton Band.

• July 11: Little Brass Band of the Lehigh Valley (sponsored by a friend of the Summer Concert Series).

• July 18: Inch & The Echoes (sponsored by George’s Plumbing, Heating, & Fuel Oil Inc.).

• July 25: Steel Creek (sponsored by Pencor Services Inc.).

• Aug. 1: Marine Band of Allentown (sponsored by Carbon County Community Foundation).

• Aug. 8: The Pennsylvania Villagers (sponsored by the Palmerton Concourse Club).

• Aug. 15: Second To None Band.

• Aug. 22: Palmerton Band (sponsored by the Palmerton Bandstand Committee).

The Bandstand Committee reserves the right to cancel a concert in case of inclement weather.
