Palmerton offers employment to two part-time officers

Two part-time officers have been offered a chance to join Palmerton’s police department.

Also at Thursday’s borough council meeting, it was announced that new Tasers have arrived.

Council agreed to offer employment to part-time police officers Jarod Greene and Robert Lilly, contingent upon the officers’ successful completion of a psychological exam, a physical exam and obtaining state certification.

In other police department-related matters, Mayor William Gallagher also mentioned that new Tasers have arrived,

“And our police officers have been scheduled for training,” Gallagher said. “Once they all receive the training, they will be equipped with the Tasers.”

In an unrelated matter, council approved unpaid time off for newly hired mechanic Bradlee Clewell.

Successful events

Gallagher informed borough council on Thursday that both the Memorial Day Parade and Pace-Makers Association Car Show were real crowd-pleasers.

“May 31, we had a Memorial Day parade which was well-received, with a lot of people out on the streets, and attendance in the park was considerable,” Gallagher said. “I think people were really glad to get out and have a way of celebrating.”

As for the car show, Gallagher said there were about 238 cars.

“The Pace-Makers Association Car Show in the park was also pretty well-received,” he said. “And they kept the park immaculate.”
