Local Roundup: Results from June 29

Towamensing and Anthracite/Lansford picked up victories in the District 18 10-12-year-old Little League Tournament on Tuesday.

Elsewhere, the Birches also picked up a win in a NORCO Legion contest.

10-12 TOURNAMENT

Anthracite/Lansford-

Hazle Township

Anthracite cruised to a 10-2 victory over Hazle Township to advance in the District 18 Little League tournament.

Derek Lazar had a big day at the plate and on the mound for the winners, who will play Tamaqua on Thursday in a loser’s bracket contest.

Lazar had two hits, scored two runs and knocked in a pair for Anthracite/Lansford. He also pitched five innings, allowing just three hits and two walks while striking out seven.

Kaden Koerbler contributed a pair of hits, two runs and an RBI, with Chase McArdle collecting two hits and knocking in a run. Carson Jones also finished with two hits and scored a run.

AJ Reaman, Trent Hausman and Gabe Perilli each added a hit, while Brian Boretski tossed the final inning, striking out one to secure the victory.

Towamensing-Freeland

Four Towamensing pitchers combined to throw a no-hitter in an 11-1 victory over Freeland.

The win keeps Towamensing alive in the double-elimination tournament and will now face Jim Thorpe on Thursday.

Chase Wilson started for the winners, walking one and striking out five in two innings of work. Other pitchers contributing to the no-hitter were Ben Negley, Greyson Ahner and Colton Becker.

Ahner collected three hits, one of them a two-run single in the first inning, for Towamensing, who used a six-run fifth to secure the decision.

Jared Grammes added two hits, including a home run during that fifth frame. Towamensing also received multiple hits from Mathew Gombert, while Connor Lawless knocked in a pair of runs and stole four bases. Becker also had two RBIs in the contest.

SCHUYLKILL TEENER LEAGUE

Hegins-Lansford

Hegins stayed undefeated with a 14-6 win over Lansford in Schuylkill Teener League action.

Layne Yoder (three runs scored) and Jake Tietsworth (RBI, two runs scored) had three hits apiece for Hegins (9-0). Braxton Schwartz had two two-run doubles and scored twice, and Luke Wehry had two singles and three runs scored.

Michael Pascoe was 2-for-3 with a run scored for Lansford (5-6). David McAndrew was 1-for-2 with a run scored and two RBIs, while Chase Weaver had a hit and scored twice and Hayden Goida doubled and knocked in a run.

Lansford-Hegins

Chase Leonard prevailed in a pitchers duel to lead Hegins to a 1-0 win over Lansford in Schuylkill Teener League action Monday.

Leonard surrendered just three hits – two in the first inning – walked one and struck out eight for Hegins. Leonard got run support in the fourth when Braxton Schwartz hit a leadoff single and Aidan Nye followed with an RBI triple. Lucas Scheib also tripled in the win.

Michael Pascoe struck out six for Lansford, allowing four hits and two walks. Pascoe, Cody Orsulak and Drew Kokinda all had singles for Lansford.

NORCO LEGION

Palmer-Birches

The Birches blew open a close game with an eight-run third inning and cruised to a 14-3 victory over Palmer Township in NORCO Legion action.

Brandon Ratti had two doubles and four RBIs for the Birches (9-6-1), while Jack Smale added three hits. Dallas Greenzweig struck out 10 over six solid innings, allowing just three hits.
