CCTI Joint Operating Committee

Carbon Career & Technical Institute Joint Operating Committee met this month to discuss the following:

• Ken Walters, supervisor of buildings and grounds, reported that the energy-saving LED lighting program is about 80% complete and is expected to be completed over the summer, and the savings are starting to be noticed already.

• The school is looking for substitute maintenance employment for the 2021-2022 school year. Visit the website at Carboncti.org and click on the “Employment” tab along the top navigation menu, or call 570-325-3682, ext. 1122.

• The school is looking for a project for the Building Construction Trades, possibly a tiny home or a modular home, or maybe an office or a large shed. Contact the school to discuss the details.

• Christine Trovato, facilitator of special education, reported for the 2021-2022 school year there are expected to be 33 incoming special education students, bringing the total to about 92 students next year, and twenty 504 students, a total increase in enrollment of about 2%.

• Treasurer Jeffry P. Deutsch was nominated and appointed for another year as treasurer, effective July 1 through June 3, 2022.

• Attorney Robert T. Yurchak was approved as the solicitor for the 2021-2022 fiscal year at a retainer of $7,000 and $100 per hour for extra work done.

• Margaret Kalogerakis of Albrightsville was retained as Coordinator of School Improvement at a prorated salary of $43,581 effective Aug. 18 through Oct. 1. She will contribute $90 a month toward health care expenses during that time and has submitted a letter of resignation, effective Oct. 1.

• Angelique Yaich was retained as instructor for the Carbon Alternative High School Diploma Program for 32 hours/week, 200 days, at the rate of $33 per hour.

• Co-curricular activities and student club/organization advisers were set: DECA, Jalissa Kuehner; DECA assistant, Sandra Kohutka; HOSA, Stephanie Gomber, effective Oct. 26; Rotary Interact Community Service Club, Margaret Kalogerakis; SADD/Aevidum, Rebecca Schaeffer; senior class, Sandi Kohutka; SkillsUSA, Kevin Kuehner; SkillsUSA assistant, Maritza Reinbold; student council, Margaret Kalogerakis; underclass, Sue Ann Gerhard; yearbook, JamiLynn McFarland.

• Appointments effective July 1 through June 30, 2022: Colleen Gooch as adult education nurse aide instructor and nurse aide coordinator at $33 per hour; Tonia Schaeffer, adult education GED Instructors at $21.50 per hour; Donna Valent, adult education GED aide at $13.50 per hour and Deborah Enterline as GED examiner at $20 per hour.

• Jeffry Nietz as a substitute part-time technology assistant (on an as-needed basis) at the rate of $175/day for the 2021-2022 school year.

• Adam Reichard as the building substitute effective Aug. 26.
