Carbon man given prison term for indecent exposure

A Carbon County man was sentenced to a county prison term in the county court on Monday after pleading guilty to one count of indecent exposure.

Gerald Stillman, 59, of Lehighton, was sentenced to serve one to 12 months in prison on the charge by President Judge Roger N. Nanovic II. The court imposed the prison term after Stillman attempted to change his acceptance of the facts.

State police at Lehighton charged that on March 13 in the area of Friendship Road and Clearview Drive, in East Penn Township, Stillman exposed himself to two females while he was seated in his vehicle.

After the facts were read and acknowledged by Stillman, Nanovic proceeded to sentencing.

At this point Stillman said it was a joke because he thought he knew one of the female victims. He then said he never actually exposed himself, but only opened the buckle on his belt.

Nanovic said he had a problem with Stillman’s explanation that it was a joke, stating what kind of joke has a person exposing himself to a female. Nanovic also questioned Stillman trying to change his story after already admitting to the facts as read into the record. The judge also said he would sentence Stillman on the facts contained in the affidavit of probable cause.

Nanovic also ordered Stillman to get a mental health evaluation, supply a DNA sample, pay court costs of about $1,000 an pay a $50 per month supervision fee while on parole.

He was given credit for three days already served and will begin his jail term at 9 a.m. on June 28.
