Commissioners approved money for affordable housing efforts in the county at their Wednesday meeting.
In all, $208,184 was approved for seven projects. The Schuylkill County Affordable Housing Trust Fund Board reviewed the proposals from four entities, all of whom will receive grants. County Administrator Gary Bender, a member of the board, said this year they decided to fund all projects, but to do so had to cut funding by 20 percent. A reserve account for $10,000 was also allocated funding in the event an applicant requests additional funding.
Schuylkill Community Action will administer the program.
The following were funded and after grant approvals are signed:
• Schuylkill County Housing Authority for Minersville and Ashland High Rise modernization work $60,478.
• Schuylkill Community Action for the Schuylkill County Housing Repair Program for senior citizens and individuals with a disability $58,630.
• Schuylkill County Bridge Housing Program $32,478.
• Schuylkill County Housing Counseling Program $11,677.
• Schuylkill County Weatherization Deferral HOME Rehab Program $8,477.
• Servants to All for their homeless prevention $16,478.
• Schuylkill Women in Crisis for project based voucher housing of victims of domestic violence project $9,966.
