Monroe man charged with assault, threatening to kill woman

State police at Fern Ridge have charged an Effort man with strangulation and assault following a domestic incident.

Charles Unangst, 58, and a 47-year-old woman, both from Effort, were consuming alcohol at Lynn’s Motel, Shane Drive, in Chestnuthill Township, between 10:30 p.m. on May 8 and 12:30 a.m. on May 9.

They began to argue in their motel room, which led to an assault. Police said Unangst threw the victim into a wall and then onto the bed.

While on the bed he choked her twice, and said he was going to kill her. The victim was also punched in the face with a closed fist.

Unangst was then was driving a car with the victim to their residence and told her that she was going to die and she should pick a tree for him to hit.

Unangst was later taken into custody by Allentown police on a warrant that was issued to troopers.

He was arraigned on charges of strangulation and assault and related offenses and placed in the county prison in Snydersville, unable to post $100,000 bail.

Court records indicate he is still an inmate at the prison.
